Regal Brings ScreenX Theatre to Knoxville

Panoramic 270-Degree Cinematic Format to Debut near the Headquarters of Regal, the second ScreenX to launch within the month

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.- November XX, 2018 -- CJ 4DPLEX and Regal announced today that a ScreenX theater will open November 15 in Knoxville, Tennessee marking the first theatre in the city to feature ScreenX, the premium, panoramic, 270-degree cinema environment that projects films on three walls of the auditorium.

The location of the ScreenX location is the Regal Pinnacle multiplex located at 11240 Parkside Dr, Knoxville, Tennessee, home to the headquarters of Regal. The new location brings the current U.S. screen count to 11 as part of the previously announced major expansion plan with the Cineworld Group, the parent company of Regal. The Regal Pinnacle ScreenX is currently playing Bohemian Rhapsody with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald starting on Thursday, November 15th.

The Pinnacle location is the latest theater opening in November, as Regal and CJ 4DPLEX have opened two ScreenX locations in South Beach, Miami, during ShowEast on October 21, where the innovative company was presented the ShowEast’s Technology of the Year Award, and earlier this month in Seattle, Washington on November 5. The two companies also partnered on the opening of the immersive 4DX theater in Jacksonville, Florida, on the first of November.

The Film Expo Group recently recognized CJ 4DPlex’s achievements by presenting ScreenX with the ShowEast’s Technology Innovator of the Year Award on Thursday, October 25, where earlier in the week, CJ 4DPLEX showcased the trailer of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in the ScreenX experience at Regal South Beach Stadium 18, Auditorium 17.

The latest ScreenX opening brings the total global footprint to 171, in 16 countries. Worldwide the number of ScreenX theatres has increased exponentially, with auditoriums opening in Western Europe for the first time and with additional locations to launch across China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, France, Turkey and the Middle East by the end of 2018.

“This installation is very special to us as it’s home to Regal,” said Brandon Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX America.  “We are excited to use this location as a proving ground that our immersive experience is truly a gamechanger in the premium theater category.”

“The Regal Pinnacle location allows us to closely monitor the success of ScreenX and get direct feedback of the unique immersive format firsthand”, said Ken Thewes, CMO at Regal. “With a great line up of films we are continuing to hear great feedback about ScreenX across the country and are excited to experience it on a regular basis right here at home.”

Bohemian Rhapsody is the second 20th Century Fox film to be released in panoramic, 270-degree premium cinema format. The first, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, was a global success, leading to a continuing partnership between 20th Century Fox and ScreenX.

Along with Bohemian Rhapsody and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the ScreenX lineup will also include Aquaman in December and Shazam! in April 2019.

ScreenX is the world’s first multi-projection theatre technology designed to enhance the moviegoing experience. ScreenX allows the audience to go beyond the frame of the traditional movie screen, utilizing a proprietary system to expand select scenes of feature films and pre-show advertising to the left and right walls.

About Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald:

Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is the second of five all new adventures in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World™.

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne).  But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.  Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

The film features an ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp.  The cast also includes, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Carmen Ejogo, and  Poppy Corby-Tuech.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling.  The film is produced by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.

Slated for release on November 16, 2018, the film will be distributed worldwide in 2D and 3D in select theatres, IMAX, 4DX and ScreenX by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
